Just received the 160GB COLORSPACE O. One word: SLICK
The advertisement and the FAQ does not do justice to this new model. The price difference is nothing for the new enhancements. The interface speed response is very welcomed. The automatic vertical and horizontal viewing seemed childish on paper but WOW what an enhancement.

Also, the ease of the bigger screen readability is an incentive. The lock for the USB port is also a nice touch. The new user manual is more comprehensive and detailled. The firmware updates shows that the company cares and aim to offer the best.

Our team of photographers use three Hyperdrives and spare drives to cover Equestrian events. We are often kilometers apart, shooting in the gigabytes. The Hyperdrives makes it possible. Yes, it's that good!

In February I was having problems with my two 4GB SanDisk Extreme III CF memorys cards and I called up SanDisk. The Tech person I spoke with told me that the cards were fakes even though I did pay full price for them 2 years ago. I kept them and as soon as I got my two new HyperDrive COLORSPACE, I tested them (with the HyperDrive CF Card Authenticity Verification System). The HyperDrive said that they were OK.

I called Sandisk again and they agreed that they were good and are going to replace both of them!!! Yea!! And thanks!

I just received my COLORSPACE O case. I installed an unused 80 gig drive from my previous Macintosh PowerBook, ran the format command and "voila" I've got a great new portable backup device for all of my photography. What a slick device, great screen, reads RAW format with previews, error checking and very fast! I even installed a photo of my last trip to the Bahamas as the background image - very cool.

With the airlines getting so strict on baggage these days, I don't alway carry my MacBook Pro with me on trips, but I always carry my Nikon camera. Now when I go to those out of the way fishing trips, I have the assurance of backing up photos during my trip. How cool is that?

This is the coolest PSD ever!

I just felt I had to drop you a line to say what a fabulous device my COLORSPACE is. I had had *sooooo* many problems with PSDs over the years (having used both HP and latterly Jobo GigaVu Pro).

Apart from it being blindingly fast at transferring from a CF card (I use Sandisk Extreme IV) and for once this is a device that can actually make use of these fast cards, I also love it because it is a PSD, plain and simple. It does not try to be anything else - other devices I have used tried to be too many different things and as a result the software was buggy. I am a photographer and need something reliable and fast and that does not keep going wrong - the COLORSPACE really sorts me out!

Another important issue is the casing - it is good at a variety of temperatures as the metal transfers heat to the surroundings properly - good cooling for the disk therefore. I lost 4,000 photos on a trip to Namibia last year when my Jobo hard drive failed. Even a professional disk recovery company could not recover them (and stupidly I did not have a backup). We decided that the reason why is because the Jobo has that thick rubber casing - apparently the hard drive overheated and the head actually crashed and scraped on the disk platter! At the time I remember thinking it was almost too hot to touch. The COLORSPACE has been to Africa with me, up snowy mountains in Scotland and has not put a foot wrong in such diverse temperatures.

Also, the Jobo seemed to have problems in its battery reporting - it would "suddenly" say it was near empty or "suddenly" show near empty when I put a card in - even though it had said it had full charge before. The battery indicator on the COLORSPACE I have learned I can actually trust!

As a professional photographer using Nikon cameras, I have used another brand of CF backup device and was only able to copy a 2GB CF card in 30 minutes in one battery charge.
Now with the SPACE being able to copy numerous cards and each card taking only a few minutes to copy, it is a real relief.

I bought the COLORSPACE from your website within the same week it was released!

I have just returned to NZ from a 3 month overseas trip covering India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

The unit performed flawlessly and worked well with my mainly Sandisk CF Extreme III cards. I downloaded the photos at the end of everyday even though the cards aren't completed full as an "insurance". I'll continue shooting on the same card the next day to fill it up and will again backup on the COLORSPACE at the end of that day. Therefore I am maintaining two copies of the same photos (on two separate directories which is created by default by the unit) just in case something goes wrong. On the third day, I usually format the CF card and wipe off the first day's photos on the COLORSPACE while keeping the second day's folder - as the unit doesn't yet do an "incremental backup".

I'm happy to report that this has served me well in all sorts of weather from humid SE Asia to even up in the Indian Himalayas with overnight temperatures of minus 6 degrees C at an altitude of 2,900m (according to my GPS). Admittedly, when I backed up the CF card, it was only probably around 0 - 5 degrees C. I have just read the knowledge base and it reports that HDD has an operational altitude limit of 3000m !

BTW, a useful additional feature to add is an undelete/recover function on the unit's HDD as I had inadvertently accidentally deleted a folder on the COLORSPACE on the road but was luckily able to recover most of the photos from the previous day's CF card.

I'm glad I brought this unit along as during the last week of my holidays in Malaysia, a snatch thief got away with my Camera and a 4Gb card, fortunately I only lost that half day's shoot.

Keep up the good work with firmware releases (and hoping for an incremental backup function in the future ;-) !!!

I did search far and wide looking at every possible option including but not limited to Archos, Epson, Wolverine, Jobo, Canon, Nixvue, Flashtrax, etc.

In the end, after lots of testing, I came up with the HyperDrive SPACE.

Reliability is naturally vital. I found the HyperDrives in use to be flawless. I shot more than 5,000 images and downloaded all of them without a hitch.

The actual speed of the drives was by far the most impressive and unexpected feature of the units. The drive would download an entire 4GB CF card in about 4 minutes. The last unit I had (from a company that will remain nameless) downloaded a 2GB card in 23 minutes. The time difference is staggering. And the difference it makes in the quality of your travel cannot be discounted.

...some of the additional features on the drive which I found invaluable were the ability to take any kind of memory card you could throw at it, the VERY small size of the unit itself, the great ease of use (I didn’t even have to read the instructions) and the fact that they look kinda sharp didn’t hurt either.

Comments: What a great product!

Ever had a shoot where seemingly everything went wrong? Recently, when I had to take about 1500 shots for an assignment, the built-in flash in my primary camera, which trips my monolights, just stopped working. My secondary camera took over, but then its built-in flash started misfiring every 6 or 8 shots.

Normally, I save my photos directly to my laptop using a USB-based card reader, but my laptop started giving me a message that it didn't recognize the SD slot in the reader, and futzing around didn't cure that problem.

LUCKILY, I had bought a HyperDrive SPACE a couple days earlier and was saving cards to both the SPACE and the laptop until the laptop failed. So, crossing my fingers, hoping for the best and expecting the worst, I relied totally on the SPACE. And what do you know, it kept me from going out of the frying pan into the fire!

Since then, I don't even bother with the laptop. This is how thoroughly I trust this unit.

One more thing: I think every photographer will have the same reaction when they open the box and handle the unit for the first time. It is rock solid: nothing rattles, nothing seems loose, and it's heavy enough for its size to make you wonder if you could throw it out the window and it's still be serviceable.

Well, I'm not going to try, but it is one rugged unit.

I'm' so glad I discovered this product. Even shooting 1500 RAW+JPEG images, it still had plenty of space on it, so I think the 40 Gig unit will do me for a long, long time.

I received my Hyperdrive SPACE 160GB several days ago and I couldn't be happier with it. I needed to replace my existing hard-drive based CF card download device and was finding units that pack everything except the kitchen sink into one device. I don't need or want to play MP3 files or watch video when I'm out photographing - I just need to download my CF cards to a fast, reliable, power stingy device. The Hyperdrive SPACE is exactly what I was looking for. When I read on your website that you can download 100GB on a single battery charge, I was skeptical. But now I'm a believer. I've been able to consistently download 150GB of data on a single full battery! Simply amazing. Especially when considering that my previous device could manage only 2GB of downloads on its wimpy internal battery, and to transfer 50GB-60GB of data I had to lug around a motorcycle battery in the field!

I just got the device, and it's great. This device is going to be tremendous for traveling photographers. My uploads take less than a minute, and I don't have to worry about charging it every night at a hostel. Every couple of months I go away for a few weeks traveling the world, and this device will finally free me from having to lug around my laptop or rely on my ipod to save my pictures and free up my memory cards. The Ipod is useless when compared to this device for storage, simply because with the Ipod you cant upload more than a 100 raw pictures before the battery is dead. With this you can upload a 100Gbs before you have to even think of charging it. Trust me charging a $400 Ipod in hostels and shared accommodations overnight, every night is not something that helps towards your sleep.

I'm really looking forward to using this device even more as it has tremendous potential.

And I cant say enough about the customer service. I was upgraded to UPS next day by noon for free. Now I can actually take this device on the trip tomorrow. You guys are great and you have a great product. I'll be watching to see what you come up with next.

Just received my HyperDrive HD80 (100Gb version) yesterday. It's incredible! Does what it says like lightning! I dumped almost 500MB from a 2GB SanDisk Ultra II in 12-15 seconds! Hi, I just purchased an HD80 and love it already.

Well I ran a test tonight of the battery life and transfer speed, and I gotta say...the batteries last FOREVER.

-Transfer time for 1GB Ultra II card (949MB, 360 Files): 1:45 flat
-Battery life: FOREVER...well, technically 85GB worth of data.

Conclusion: I would STRONGLY recommend this device if you're looking for a PSD. I haven't used any other devices, but for the price and performance I couldn't ask for anything more. There are PSD's out there with displays, but they're more expensive, and have more that can go wrong.

Hi.. My HD80 Hyperdrive arrived tonight (a 60Gb Hitachi 5400 rpm drive arrived yesterday). I popped in the drive (easy as can be), plugged the Hyperdrive in, formatted the disk drive and inserted a card. 2 minutes later about 800Mb were copied. I then hooked up the USB and transferred the files to the computer (very fast). This thing is great. What I wanted to comment on was how amazed I am that everything I needed was included in this package. The screwdriver, car charger, AC charger, rechargeable double-A's and a USB cable. All I can say is well done, I will be singing your praises every opportunity I get.

I just got my HD80.
I must say that I was just a bit hesitant earlier on, but I am very well pleased.
It came 3 days after I ordered it, just as they said it would. And it comes with everything at no extra cost - free shipping, a free set of 2500 mAh batteries, the car charger, and even a screw driver to use to install your own hard drive!
And mine must already have the new 2.1 firmware, because I inserted my 1 GB SanDisk memory stick, then turned on the power, and it started up, and copied the contents without me having to do a single thing.
I didn't even format the hard drive I used. I had a 20 GB Toshiba from an older device that would not read my 1 GB SanDisk memory sticks, and it was already formatted FAT32, so it just worked as it was.
And the HD80 is FAST. The memory stick was only about 1/4 full (250 MB), but it only took about 40 seconds or so to copy. My old one would take about 5 minutes to copy a mere 128 MB, and the battery would only last long enough to copy about 4 or 5 128 MB memory sticks.
So I am completely satisfied with the HD80. If any of you are hesitating, waiting for something, then wait no longer - order one.

Got my HD80 today as stated, Thank you.
I must say I like the unit. I'd say I am 100% satisfied if the screws and HD bracket are a notch higher in quality and align better. But no big deal as the HD installation won't happen too often.
